James F. Armstrong

July 25, 1946 — January 27, 2005

Jim passed away Thursday January 27, 2005 from a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 25, 1946 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Geraldine Schweitzer and Fred Wood and later adopted by Robert Armstrong. Both fathers preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Trina of 37 years, daughter Jennifer, son in law Wyatt and two Grandsons Tristan and Ethan, like real sons Rich and A.J. both from Salem brothers Clude of Idaho, Robert of Lebanon sisters Georgine of Salem and Georgia of Idaho also his parents Geraldine and Ray Hartly from Lebanon and his dog Jake. Jim Graduated from Lebanon High School in 1964, From there he enlisted in the Navy and served as a storekeeper aboard the USS Regilus during the Vietnam War 1964-1967. His name appears on the Vietnam Memorial at the Grand Ronde Indian Reservation. After his service in the military he enrolled in college where he met his wife Trina. He later worked as an accountant for Shutterbug, Payless, Salem Brkae & Wheel, Siltez Trucking Co. and was also an auditor for the Oregon State Farm Bureau. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge for 37 years. In 1976, he purchased his accounting firm from Rose and Rudy Frykberg. It is here where he spent 30 years consulting and assisting his clients with their payroll, accounting and tax needs. In his job he also had to be a friend, parent, marriage counselor, doctor, priest and lawyer to his clients. He loved every minute of it and considered his clients not only friends, but part of his family. His great loves were accounting, fishing, the outdoors, cooking, photography, boating and socializing with is friends and family. He was a very special person who touched many lives with his kindness, love and generosity. He never knew a stranger and helped all he could. A Memorial Service will be at 12:00 PM February 12, 2005 at the Independence Elks Lodge. Contributions can be made to your favorite fish hatchery, American Cancer Society or Willamette Valley Hospice. Arrangements Entrusted to Farnstrom Mortuary, Independence.
