Howard "Bob" Robertson McBride
July 24, 1947 - February 18, 2016
Bob McBride, 68, "the Running Man of Independence," died Thursday morning at Salem hospital after a long battle with GIST cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Margo McBride of Independence, OR, their son Peter McBride, daughter-in-law Amanda McBride of Corvallis, OR and by his sister Helen Taylor of Cheney, WA.
Bob was born Howard Robertson McBride to Robertson and Margaret McBride on July 24th, 1947 in Spokane WA. He received his B.A. in Business from Eastern Washington University. Bob worked for Fairview Training Center as a Recreational Specialist for 20 years supporting those with developmental disabilities. He continued that work as a Personal Support Professional at PCL, enjoying his weekend excursions with "the guys."
Throughout most of his life, Bob was a runner. First getting into running in the late 70's while living in Pendleton, Bob ran races all through Oregon and Washington. Running was one of his favorite activities in life. It was where he met many friends and where he saw much of the world. His final race was this last October running the Portland Half Marathon. Bob also was a very talented guitar player. Most nights he would be found in the living room playing his most cherished selections of folk songs.
In honor of Bob there will be a memorial service held at 2 pm on Saturday, February 27th, at St. Hilda's Episcopal Church, 245 Main St W, Monmouth, Oregon. One of Bob's favorite events was the Monmouth/Independence Mini Marathon held every 4th of July. We have setup a Go Fund Me account in the memory of Bob for donations going to the Mini Marathon.
