Helen Margaret Thomas, a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2024, at the age of 93. Helen’s final year was spent receiving exceptional care from the dedicated staff at Blue Haven Memory Care Facility in Independence, Oregon.
Born in Ashville, North Carolina, Helen was the youngest of twelve children, all of whom preceded her in death. She moved to Oregon where she spent most of her life, cultivating a legacy of warmth and love. Helen is survived by her three sons, Craig, Ron, and Tracy; her nine grandchildren; and her thirteen great-grandchildren. She was the heart of her family, always finding joy in their presence and celebrating each milestone with pride.
A talented cook and gifted canner, Helen spent many years working in various restaurants before retiring from OSU’s cafeteria. Her culinary skills, including her skill in canning, were legendary among her family and friends. In addition to her love of cooking, Helen found great pleasure in listening to the music of Alan Jackson, watching hummingbirds from her window, and cheering on her favorite college sports teams.
Helen's spirit will be remembered for her kindness, her dedication to her family, and her joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her legacy of love and laughter will continue to inspire all who knew her.
