Gerald L. Newton of Salem, was born May 30, 1918 in American Falls Idaho, and passed away on June 18, 2010, at the age of 92. He moved to Oregon in 1930, and graduated from Independence High School in 1935, and from Oregon Normal School in 1938, with his first teaching position in Springfield, Oregon in 1938. He completed his B.S. degree from the University of Oregon in 1941. He served in the US Army Air Corps. In 1951 he received his Master's degree from the U of O. He held superintendence's in Madras, Sweet Home, and Harrisburg and retired in 1979. He moved to Salemtowne in 1977 where he enjoyed golf, cards, and the people of Salemtowne. During this time he also traveled to many parts of the world: Europe, Middle East, Canada, South America, and throughout the US states. He married Doris E. McGowan July 17, 1938. Survivors include his wife Doris and sons Jon G. of Sublimity and Murray L. of Salem. There are nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
