Obituary, Gerald W. "Jerry" Mattson June 21, 1928 ~ June 7, 2008 Gerald "Jerry" Mattson of Independence, Oregon died June 7th at the age of 79. Mr. Mattson was born June 21, 1928 in The Dalles, Oregon. He married Shirley Watson in Goldendale, Washington on July 11, 1948. She died in December 1991. They lived in Goldendale, Washington and moved with their 3 children to the Independence area in 1963. He worked for the Salem School District and then went to work for the City of Salem as an Accounting Supervisor in the Finance Department a position he held for 20 years until his retirement in July 1994. In his retirement he enjoyed fishing, growing roses and working in his garden. Jerry enjoyed time at the Monmouth Senior Center where he was on the Board of Directors. Survivors include his sister Joyce DeChenne of Grants Pass, Oregon, Erin David Schroeder of Bend, Oregon; sons, Garth Jann Mattson of Vancouver, WA. And Jeffrey Becky Mattson of Eugene, Oregon; grandchildren Abrie Schroeder, Natalie Schroeder and Kim Darnell. Inurnment will be in the Grange Cemetery in Centerville, Washington A Celebration of Life open house will be held 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. June 20th at the Monmouth Senior Center 180 S.
