George Ivan Knaupp, 52, of Independence, one of the mid-Willamette Valley's leading dairy farmers, died at his home on April 11, 1967 of an apparent heart attack.
He farmed all his life in Iowa, where he was born, and moved to Independence in 1943. In 1952 he brought 14 registered Holstein cows from Wisconsin to start a herd.
He was a past president of Oregon State Holstein Association. For many years he was active in 4-H work and had been a 4-H leader the past 11 years. Last year he was awarded the State 4-H Alumni Plaque for leadership of young people.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Salem. In 30 years church work he was a deacon, trustee and Sunday School superintendent and in January he was appointed to the mission committee. He was on the board of Salem Academy.
Surviving are wife Marie of Independence; daughters Ruth and Esther and sons John and Mark, all at home; mother Mrs. Jessie Knaupp, Monmouth; sisters Mrs. Esther Templeman, Bowie, MD, Mrs. Naomi Stookey, Portland, Mrs. Ruby Tow, Monmouth, and Mrs. Edna Henry, Ames, IA; brothers Elmer, Lincoln City, Paul, Milwaukie and Lyle, Vacaville, CA.
Services are in the care of Parmenter Mortuary (now Farnstrom Mortuary).
