Obituary, Evelyn Mae Shearer Winegar August 26, 1920 ~ October 13, 2007 Evelyn Mae Shearer Winegar of Monmouth, Oregon died on October 13th at the age of 87 at the Sweet Bye and Bye home in Keizer, Oregon. She was born to Fay and Mae Shearer on August 26, 1920 in Forest Grove, Oregon. She met her future husband, Ralph Winegar, while a freshman at Oregon Normal School now Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Oregon. When Ralph first saw her at a college dormitory, he commented to a friend "that's the girl I'm going to marry". Evelyn married the love of her life on October 29, 1939, in Forest Grove, Oregon. Evelyn led a life rich with the love of family, friends and Jesus, her Lord and Savior. Evelyn survivors include her husband, Ralph and six children: Lois Canfield of Georgetown, Texas, Kay Vogt and Jerry Winegar of Monmouth, Oregon; Jean Comstock of Salem, Oregon; Jane Simmons of Canby, Oregon and Donna Ossenkop of Redmond, Oregon. She and Ralph also have 17 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 13 foster children and 17 foreign exchange students. She is also survived by a sister, Lois Nelson of Forest Grove, Oregon and a brother, Herb Shearer of Vancouver, Washington. 1 great grandson Kyler Ossenkop proceeded in death in 2001 at the age of 3 months. Evelyn and her husband built up a legacy of friendship, not only from their neighbors and friends in Monmouth, but of the many renters of the 71 apartments they had built adjacent to the college. Evelyn worked from 1958 to 1976 at the college library and attained the title of Administrative Assistant prior to her retirement. Evelyn was a lover of life, her Lord Jesus and her family and friends. She was a gentle gracious lady, loved by all that knew her. Private Family Interment will be at Fir Crest Cemetery. Celebration of Life will be 3:00pm Friday October 19th at the Independence First Baptist Church. Arrangements Entrusted to Farnstrom Mortuary, Independence.
