Eunice Belle Tanner, 80, a resident of Independence, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at a hospital in Salem. She was born on July 23, 1929, in Lusk, Wyoming, one of seven children to Roy J and Fannie Fae Hobson Maguire. Eunice also resided in Colorado before settling in Oregon. A nurse for over thirty years, she retired from Albany General Hospital as a charge nurse, and also ran a taxi service in Independence. She enjoyed knitting, working in gardens and yards, taking trips to the coast, and driving. Eunice is survived by her son, Roy Tanner of Independence; sisters Hazel Smith of Brighton, Colorado, and Mary McFarlane of Commerce City, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her sons James and Martin Tanner, brothers Carl and Frank, sisters Ann and Alice, and her parents. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society.
