Eula Mae Burress formerly of Independence passed quietly in her sleep April 8th in her home in Washougal, Washington where she was attended to by friends and family.
Eula was born in Bear Creek Arkansas, November 12, 1922 to Cordelia (Loyd) Watts and Bunyan Luther Watts. She was the oldest of 8 children: Eula, Charley, Carmen, Jane, Burt, Jackie, Denver, and Gracie. She was preceded by her husband, Claud C. Burress in 1992. She is survived by her son Chet Burress of Marysville, CA. Daughter Betty Langwell of Bellingham WA, son Edward and wife Cheri Burress of Washougal Washington. She is also survived by 4 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, 1 great-granddaughter, and 2 great-great-grandsons.
Eula moved with her family from Arkansas to California during the great depression where she met her husband Claud who was also from Arkansas. They had two children, Chet and Betty before moving to the small town of Beaver, Oregon where they had a son Edward. Eula worked in the Tillamook Cheese Factory in the '50s, later moving to Independence where she worked as a school cook at Independence Elementary, Henry Hill Elementary, and Talmadge Middle School before retiring. She was a tireless and loving mom who cared for her family and friends, many of whom she met at a church in Dallas, Oregon. Her gardens and orchards were meticulously cared for, the fruits and vegetables being canned each year along with fish and wild game well into her 70's. She was a master gardener, a bee-keeper, hunter, fisherman, gardener, cow-milker, sheep raiser, and homemaker. She used to say that when she was a kid, when they butchered a hog for food, they figured out how to use everything but the oink.
She will be missed in this world, and welcomed into God's loving arms.
Our loving memories and prayers will be with her and those who knew her.
