Dallas - Esther Katherine Goebl was born December 3, 1923 in Powers, Oregon to Samuel and Ethel Hayes (Smith). She married Albert Paul Goebl May 7, 1940 in Coquille, Oregon. She died peacefully in her sleep January 12, 2013 in Salem, Oregon. She was 89 years old.
Spending the majority of her life living in Powers, Esther raised her two children there. She loved the outdoors, gardening, canning, sewing, and was an excellent homemaker. She was particularly fond of a beautiful sunset, sweet peas, the changing colors in the fall, and spending time with her family and friends.
Esther is preceded in death by her son Kenneth Gene Goebl in 1960; her sister Annette Wall in 1977, her husband Albert in 1997, and her brother Robert Hayes in 2001.
Esther is survived by her daughter Diana Schleicher (Bill) of Dallas, five grandchildren: Rhonda Baseler-Johnson (Eugene) of Milwaukie, Perry Zeiger (Rebecca) of Salem, Keni Kealiher (Rick) of Dallas, Charles Clark of Salem and Johnny Schleicher of Dallas; 4 great-grandchildren: Eli Baseler of Milwaukie, Rachael Baseler of Milwaukie, Portia Zeiger of Salem and Joey Kealiher of Dallas; her sister Edith Quilhaugh of Neselle, WA, brother George Hayes (June) of Tillamook, and brother Charles Floyd of Mount Angel. Esther also had a number of foster children, including Ellen Baldwin of Powers, and many nieces and nephews.
Esther's memorial service will be held Saturday, January 19, at 2 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1961 SE Miller Ave, Dallas Oregon. Refreshments to follow at another location. She was loved by all who knew her and will be missed.
She was known as Esther, Mom, Sis and Auntie.
