Ernest Henry Vanderzanden of Independence, Oregon passed away January 20, 2011 at his home at the age of 97.
Ernest was raised in Verboort, moved to family farm in Roy. After WWII he married and bought a farm outside of Independence where he lived out his life. Worked for Mt. Fir Lumber Co. for 25+ years retiring in 1977.
Ernest was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Independence and was a 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus and 81 years with Catholic Foresters. He enjoyed fishing, cribbage, gardening and reading.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years Edith, sons; John (Linda), Joseph (Liz), Thomas, Francis, Daughters; Mary Ellen Jeffrey (Kit) Julie Youse (Alan), Janet Ashcraft, Diane Vanderzanden, Grandchildren; Sarah, Amy, Molly, Laura, Karen, Patrick, BJ, Christianne, Bethany, Ethen, Cassie, Katie, Ellie and Helen, 9 great grandchildren.
Rosary will be 10:30 am Monday January 24, 2011 with Funeral Mass at 11:00am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Reception to follow service. Open Casket viewing will be from 2pm to 5pm Monday at Farnstrom Mortuary. Vault Interment will be noon on Tuesday January 25, 2011 at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Roy, Oregon.
