INDEPENDENCE ~ Elsie Gertrude Ries passed away August 26, 2011. Born in Wapato, Washington on January 21, 1933. Living in Washington, Montana and California from 1933-1966. Settling in Monmouth in 1966 she taught English at South Salem High School from 1971 retiring in 1991. In 2000 she moved from Monmouth to Independence. She was a member of the Christ's Church in Monmouth. She enjoyed crocheting afghans for her family.
Survivors include her daughters Nancy (Vernon) Wells of Independence, Connie (Harry) Page of Independence, son, Chuck Ries of Salem, Oregon, daughter Donna Wedel of Independence. 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Memorial Service will be 12pm, Wednesday August 31, 2011 at the Christ's Church 412 W. Clay St. Monmouth, Oregon 97361. Private interment will be at Fir Crest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Christ's Church - Elsie Ries Memorial or Willamette Valley Hospice in care of Farnstrom Mortuary 410 Monmouth St. Independence, Oregon 97351 who is entrusted with arrangements.
