Edwin Albert Sedivy, age 88, of Monmouth, Oregon, born in Redbird, Nebraska on January 4, 1920, passed away on December 15, 2008 in Woodburn, Oregon. He is preceded in death by Winona, his wife of 60 years. Edwin was born and raised on a farm outside Redbird, Nebraska, and attended school in Lynch, Nebraska. During the Great Depression, Edwin moved with his family to Oregon, where he graduated from Nehalem High School in 1938. Edwin served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as an aviation mechanic from 1942 to 1945, participating in logistics support by flying the "Hump" into China. He married Winona in 1946 and moved to the Monmouth-Independence area. In 1950 he started a 32-year career at Oregon College of Education as a groundsman and eventually as a maintenance supervisor. Edwin was active in the American Legion, serving once as Post Commander, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Edwin is survived by son Dean and his wife Connie from Papillion, Nebraska, daughter Nancy from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, son Glen and his wife Rose from Vancouver, Washington, and eight grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, December 30, 10:30 AM at the Life Center Foursquare Church, 437 "D" Street in Independence, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Polk County Fire Department/EMS Unit 1800 Monmouth St. Independence, OR or the American Diabetes Association.
