November 18, 1931 - December 29, 2012

Monmouth - Ed Redman, born November 18, 1931 to Edwin and Emma Redman in Houston Texas. Graduated Lamar High School, Houston, in 1950, Joined the Air Force reserves, was called to active duty in 1951, trained as a radar operator and ground control intercept controller, and was stationed at Geiger field in Spokane Washington and at McChord Air Force Base, Tacoma Washington.

Ed was released from active duty and returned to his family's business, the Chrystal White Laundry in Houston, but returned to the Pacific northwest to wed Loretta Dumdai, his first wife. Fathered three children with Lorry in Houston, Kathryn Marie, Curtis Gene, and Christopher Lee, then moved to Eastern Oregon and began the second phase of his adult life, as a rancher. Kit Michael, his third son was born in LaGrande. They moved from Elgin to the Pendleton area, where a natural disaster took Lorry's life in 1965. In 1969, Ed met and married Callie Heise from Pendleton, and took in her young son, Gregory. The family moved to Eugene in 1969, as Ed took a management position with SAIF Corporation.

He was an avid sports fan and loved the fact that his male children shared his passion for football. Ed coached many teams of young teenagers in the art of football and enjoyed great success, with multiple league championships won by his teams. He rarely missed a game, often driving from one field to the next on weekends to coach his team, then watch his sons play on different fields. His other passion was roses, at one point the family house in Eugene had over 50 roses growing around it, and many weekends were spent pruning and tending to his plants. He was also a gardener in general, the whole family would have to turn out at harvest time to take in the huge pile of vegetables and fruits from his many trees and plants.

His children split the family loyalty between the two big Oregon Universities, Kathy and Kit chose the Orange and Black, Curt and Chris, the Yellow and Green. Greg chose blue and joined the Air Force like Ed had done.
The family stayed in Eugene until 1981 when he was moved to a Senior management position at the SAIF Headquarters in Salem. Retired from SAIF in 1984, and moved back to ranching, on a hobby basis, to Monmouth, but was drawn back into Risk Management as the head of WTD Corporations Insurance and Safety programs. Ed was asked to serve the Governor of Oregon on a special committee to reform the workers compensation law in Oregon. Ed did so, and in 1990 it became Senate Bill 1197, groundbreaking legislation that served as a model for many other states. Retiring again, he enjoyed his farm and devoted himself to caring for Callie, who was afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis. Callie preceded in Ed in death in June, 2011.

Ed leaves behind his children and their spouses; Kathy Parks, Curt and Carolyn Redman, Chris Redman and Ann Warren, Kit and Sally Redman, and Greg and Carol Redman, and 14 Grandchildren, Curtis and Lori Parks, David, Wayne, Emily, Casey, and Megan Redman, Ben and Hannah Williams, Karl and Michelle Rottman, Andy Carston, Dirk Minton, and Geri Brooks.
