Dwight H. Kennel
November 7, 1947 - March 23, 2016
Dwight Kennel passed away on the morning of March 23rd, 2016 at his home in Monmouth, OR at the age of 68. Dwight is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Lydia Ann; their children, Earl L. Kennel of Corona, CA and Annalin (Annie) and husband Justin Hedlund of Monmouth and two grandchildren, Hunter and Harrison, as well as Dwight's siblings Kathy Schweitzer, Ardiss (Ron) Burch, Bob (Sally) Kennel, and John (Mary Jane) Kennel. He was preceded in death by his parents Earl W. Kennel and Berneice Hooley Kennel and brother-in-law Merlin Schweitzer.
Dwight was born on November 7th, 1947 in Albany, OR into a loving family lead by Earl W. and Berneice Kennel. Dwight spent his childhood in Albany with his siblings and learned the family business of farming. He loved any time he could spend with his dad or grandfather out in the fields. At the age of 16, Dwight and the rest of the family moved to Monmouth, after Interstate 5 split the family's farm.
On February 22nd, 1964 Dwight had a life changing stroke which the doctors felt he would not survive. But with faith, determination, and the loving support of his family he continued on. The stroke left him paralyzed on the right side of his body and he had to relearn to speak and function with half of his body.
After years of therapy in Oregon, Dwight headed to Southern California seeking additional therapy. It was in California where he met a beautiful brown eyed woman, Lydia Ann Schrock. The two were later married on June 20th, 1976 in Ontario, CA. Lydia Ann was his angel here on earth, and with their two children they made their home on the family farm in Monmouth.
Dwight loved and admired everything about his dad, Earl W. He was an excellent athlete and Dwight aspired to be an excellent football player. Also like his dad, Dwight developed a strong faith in God. After his stroke he found that reading and memorizing scripture helped him relearn to speak. He loved to share his memory verses with everyone, and would often be found in his chair with his Bible in his lap. Dwight longed to be healed, but had faith that one day he would be made whole again in Heaven.
In honor of Dwight, there will be a memorial service at Albany Mennonite Church on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 2 pm. Contributions in Dwight's honor can be made to MCC.org for water wells or at Samaritan Evergreen Hospice. Farnstrom Mortuary is handling arrangements. Memories and condolences can be left at FarnstromMoturary.com.
