Duane Leon Vreeland

October 28, 1931 — March 11, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Duane Leon Vreeland announces his passing on March 11, 2018, at the age of 86. He passed away at his home in Salem, Oregon with his family by his side. Duane was born on October 28, 1931 in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey to John Henry and Gladys (Richards) Vreeland. Duane graduated from Butler high school in 1947 before enlisting in the Army where he served at Fort Bliss Texas from March of 1952 to March of 1954 earning the National Defense Service Medal.

Duane successfully managed a General Motors dealership for many years, and a large vegetable garden in his spare time. He enjoyed selling the bounty of his garden at the local farmer’s market on the weekends with his wife Beatrice. He was also a very talented woodworker and loved to spend hours in his shop making intricate furniture for his loved ones. Duane loved dogs, trees, desserts and most of all, his family.

Duane is survived by his wife of 66 years, Beatrice Clair (Hubbard), his sister Margaret Tand, two daughters, Sally and her husband Daniel Erwinski, Gwendolyn and her husband Kenneth Banks, son John and his wife Shanna, his seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
