Duane James Frank Sr., 84, a resident of Independence, passed away on Monday, February 21, 2011, at Salem Hospital.
He was born on January 23, 1927, in Red Oak, Iowa, where he was raised, to Clinton and Eva (Illingsworth) Frank. He joined the Navy in 1944, and upon his discharge, moved to Salem, graduating from North Salem High school. A grocer, he settled in Independence in 1959.
Duane was an avid bowler, participating actively in a bowling league. He also enjoyed gardening, and his cats. He was a member of the VFW and Elks Lodge.
He is survived by his wife Judy Frank of Independence; children Duane Frank Jr (Joan) of Falls City, Linda Deshon (Jim) of Crescent City, CA, Pam Broadus (Randy) of Monmouth, Shannon Lee Stevens of Independence, Becky Rodriguez (Jessie) of Salem; brother Clint Frank of Omaha, Nebraska; sister Elizabeth Olds of Aumsville; 17 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Trina, and grand daughter Stephanie.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. A private cremation was held at Farnstrom Cremation Center, with Farnstrom Mortuary in care of arrangements. Online condolences may be made to
