Doyle William Grooms

Doyle William Grooms was born on July 11, 1927 in Gastonia, NC to Noah and Lockie Grooms. Doyle joined the Merchant Marines at the age of 17 and shipped overseas. In September 1947 he married Geraldine Bernett. They moved to Oregon in Sept. 1952 where Doyle went to work at Weyerhauser Paper mill in Springfield for eight years. They then moved to Toledo, Oregon to work at Georgia Pacific Pulp and Paper mill, working there for 32 years, retiring as Production Manager. Doyle and Geraldine had six children. Geraldine passed away September 1981, his son Darrell passed away May 1984. On January 14, 1989 Doyle married Lois Criswell in Siletz, Oregon. After retiring in April 1992, they moved to Independence, Oregon. Doyle is survived by his wife of nearly 20 years, Lois, his four daughters: Glenda Moyer and Denise Dougherty, both of Tulsa, OK, Debra Rodine of Eugene, OR, Gail Jubie of Creswell, OR, and one son, Dennis, of Medford, OR. Stepchildren: Sandy Ekman of Portland, OR, Randy Ekman of Siletz, OR, Cindy Bennett, Kings Valley, OR and David Criswell of Toledo, OR. Twelve grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, ten step-great-grandchildren. One Sister, Betty Hutson lives in South Lake, Texas. Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Lockie Grooms; brothers: Earl, David, Dillard and Don Grooms. Visitation will be 2pm to 6pm Wednesday November 19, 2008 at Farnstrom Mortuary. Funeral services will be at the Cornerstone Christian Center in Independence, Oregon on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 10:30 am. Vault Interment to follow at Eureka Cemetery in Newport, OR at 2pm. Pastor Bob McMillian will be officiating.
