Monmouth - Doris M. Costello age 96 of Monmouth, Oregon passed away on Tuesday July 2nd 2013 at the Dallas Retirement Village in Dallas Oregon.
Doris was a native of Sioux Falls South Dakota born to Harley and Meda Patheal on February 23, 1917. She married Edward D. Costello in 1939 and moved to Oregon in 1951 where she raised her five children. Doris was an employee at the Oregon College of Education (WOU) until she retired in 1977.
After retirement Doris enjoyed traveling alone or in a caravan on trips around Oregon, across the United States and to Mexico in her motor home. Doris had a love of books and research and was able to recall and tell stories regarding her history which included memories of the Great Depression, the plains of South Dakota and the Black Hills. She also enjoyed spending her free time working on cross word puzzles and working in her yard.
Survivors include children, Julie (Allan) Mathany of Monmouth, Jim (Madeleine) Costello of Albany, Rena (Roger) Toliver of Hillsboro and Dorie Lands of Redmond; Sister Jean Gilbert of Rapid City, S.D.; and nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Edward D. Costello (1980) and daughter Mollie J. Cutsforth (2009).
