Donna Jean Case

May 30, 1936 — November 4, 2005

Donna Jean Garver Case of Monmouth, Oregon passed away November 4, 2005 from a cerebral hemorrhage after a short, but hard fought battle with lung cancer. Donna was born in the home her father built in Shirleysburg, Pennsylvania on May 30, 1936 to Leon F. and Caroline E. Rogers Garver. She traveled with her parents between Pennsylvania and Oregon a few times during her early life until they finally settled in Monmouth, Oregon in 1952. She attended Central High School in Independence and was a feature editor for the Panther Press. On October 4, 1952, she started going steady with Everett Case and had been going steady with him for 53 years. She turned 18, graduated from high school, and married Everett all in the span of one week. They were married in Monmouth on June 4, 1954 at her parents' house at 136 N. Broad Street. For the first few years of her marriage to Everett they traveled to many towns in Oregon and Washington while Everett did construction work. They settled in Monmouth and bought a home in 1960. Donna and Everett had three daughters. In 1967 Donna began working at Moore Business Forms in Salem, Oregon, retiring in 1992. She enjoyed the reunions with her friends and coworkers over the years. She and Everett were active members of the Trails End Sams Club. She lived a very active life and had a very playful attitude. Donna had a variety of artistic hobbies and crafts that she loved and shared these skills with her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening and traveling with Everett and friends. She loved singing and laughing, but loved Everett and her family most of all. Over the last several years her home was the central meeting place for Family Day. This was a weekly event where her daughters and grandchildren would show up to do crafts, projects, games, solve problems and to spend some quality time with her, their dad and each other. Friends of the grandchildren also showed up, because the kids didn't want to miss it. It was our time to be together, play games, work, and shop. Donna is survived by her husband of 51 years Everett E. Case, their three daughters, Genia Moore, Janette Otjen, Donna Thompson, their sons-in-law Bernie Otjen and Terry Thompson, their grandchildren Lee Moore, Ashley Otjen, Andria Otjen, Kalea Thompson, Tristan Thompson and many other friends and family. Donna's father Leon F. Garver, mother Caroline E. Rogers Garver, brother John Garver, sisters Helen McMullen and Carol Syler all preceded her in death. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday November 9th at the Independence Elks Lodge at 1:00 pm. Donna's wishes were that donations be made to the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers. Arrangements Entrusted to Farnstrom Mortuary, Independence.
