MONMOUTH ~ Don was born on March 6th, 1935 and raised on a farm outside DeSmet, South Dakota. Don graduated high school in DeSmet in 1953 and went on to join the Army and served two years in Korea. Upon his return he attended the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, SD. where he graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. Don accepted a job that took the family to New Castle, WY where he worked in the oil fields for two years. The family returned to Rapid City where he worked for the Air Force on Ellsworth Air Force Base for 10 years. In 1975, he accepted a job with the Corps of Engineers in Anchorage, AK where he worked for the remainder of his career and retired in 1994. In 2002 Don and Ila moved to Monmouth, OR, where they currently reside.
Don was an active member and leader in their church, First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. Don loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. His family was always his first priority and was a loving and patient husband and father, grandfather and great grandfather. Don gave generously of self and time and will be remembered by so many whose lives he touched.
Don is survived by his wife; Ila of Monmouth, his three sons and their spouses; Steve & Kim of Monmouth, Todd & Leimomi of Mitchell, SD and Daniel & Roger of Beaverton, his sister Doris and husband Lee Yeingst of Aurora, CO, 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
