Obituary, Dean R. Smith January 19, 1921 ~ January 5, 2007 Dean R. Smith of Independence, Oregon died January 5, 2007 at the age of 85. Dean was born January 19, 1921 in Independence, Oregon to Thomas and Mabel Williamson Smith. Dean and his father owned and operated the IGA grocery store in Independence for many years. Served Independence City Council for many years. Dean served in the Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. He graduated from Central High School in Independence and attended Oregon State College prior to the war service. Survivors: Larry Smith Son Independence, Oregon Stephen Smith Son Rio Rancho, New Mexico 2 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter also survived by his brother Vance Smith. Graveside Service will be held Wednesday 3:00 pm at Hilltop Cemetery in Independence. Arrangements Entrusted to Farnstrom Mortuary, Independence.
