Monmouth - Dean H. Levie passed away in his Monmouth home with his daughter on September 7, 2013 at the age of 94. Dean was born January 23, 1919 in Alunite Mill, Utah, the oldest of six children born to Harvey and Ida Levie, and the last one living.
Dean was very proud of his service in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He married Pearl Catherine Butterfield on December 10, 1943 in Sioux Falls, SD. They had 8 children.
For many years, Dean was a city building inspector in Baldwin Park, CA and Klamath Falls, OR. He also worked as a carpenter, and retired in 1981. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. In 1981 he began bringing holiday cheer to parties as Santa. He loved it, and continued until 2010.
Dean was preceded in death by his wife, four children, parents and all his siblings. He is survived by four children, 18 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in Dean's honor on Thursday, September 12, 11 am at the Monmouth LDS Church, 783 Church St W, Monmouth. Private interment will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Monmouth Senior Center Building Fund ( www.ci.monmouth.or.us ). Farnstrom Mortuary is caring for the family.
