Daniel Edward Westlind

Daniel Edward Westlind April 21, 1933 ~ December 1, 2005 Daniel Edward Westlind passed away December 1, under the care of Hospice at his Seal Rock home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 72 years of age. He was born April 21, 1933 in Clatskanie, Oregon to Daniel and Alma Westlind. He graduated from Clatskanie High School in 1951, then served for 4 years in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic during the Korean conflict. Dan and Marlene Lindberg were married October 30, 1952, and she survives him at their family home in Seal Rock, Oregon. Dan was employed by the Clatskanie People's Utility District from 1963 through 1981, beginning as a lineman and working his way up to become General Manager. Dan also taught classes in electrical engineering through Clatsop Community College. In 1981, Dan accepted the position of General Manager of the Central Lincoln People's Utility District in Newport, Oregon, where he served until his retirement following a massive stroke in 1984. Dan and Marlene moved to Seal Rock in 1989, and in his last fifteen years Dan worked as a woodworker, creating custom cabinets and furniture. Throughout his life Dan was an avid woodworker, artist, inventor, and mechanical engineer. He was a leader of his sons' boy scout troop, and a lifetime member of the Northwest Public Power Association. In addition to his wife, Marlene Westlind, he is survived by his sons Daniel L. Westlind, his wife Donna and their son Jason of Cathlamet, Washington and their daughter Julie and her husband Everett Maddox of Tigard, Oregon; Douglas Westlind, his wife Jane and their children Joseph and Emma of Alsea, Oregon; and Dennis Westlind, his wife Eva and their children Isaac and Thora of Portland, Oregon. Dan was particularly proud of each of his six grandchildren. Dan was predeceased by his parents and his three brothers, Carl, Harry and Adolph. Dan requested that no service be held and no flowers be sent, and that friends and family remember him and celebrate his life in their own way.
