Cipriano "Shorty" Carrillo passed away peacefully at his home in Independence, OR, shortly before midnight on Friday, January 26th after a short illness. He was born on September 26, 1929 in La Havana, Texas, a small ranch outside Mission, Texas in the Rio Grande Valley, to parents Eulalio Carrillo and Marcelina Requena. Shorty's family migrated to Oregon in the early 1950's and settled in the Independence area where he was employed by several agricultural and hop farms. He retired from his custodial position with the Central School District several years ago.
Shorty married his beloved wife Pilar Alonso, in Guadalcazar in the state of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, on December 11, 1966. She passed away on June 25, 2012. He is lovingly remembered by his four sons: Roberto and spouse Fran in Independence, OR and their children: Robert, Kayin, Eliana Pilar, and Gabriel. His son Rene and spouse Erinn in Clackamas, OR and their children: Evan, Ethan, and Elliot. His son Rolando in Beaverton, OR, and Ricardo and his daughter, Harlan, also from Beaverton, OR. He is also survived by his sister Maria Carrillo in Independence, OR.
Shorty was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Frank Carrillo, Dominga Salinas, and Pablo Carrillo. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews that remember him as a kind, loving, and selfless uncle. In his youth, he enjoyed baseball, boxing, bailes, fiestas, and visiting with friends. He truly enjoyed trips to visit relatives in Casa Grande, AZ, Houston, TX and the Rio Grande Valley, TX.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Wednesday, January 31st at Farnstrom Mortuary 410 Monmouth St Independence, OR at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will begin 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 1st at St. Patrick Catholic Church 1275 E St Independence, OR. The Reverend Francisco Bringuela will celebrate the Mass. Shorty will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Pilar, at Hilltop Cemetry where his parents also rest. A catered lunch will be served at Cornish Hall at St. Patrick Catholic Church following the interment. If you are unable to join us, we ask that you join us in spirit.
