Christopher Patrick Fery

Christopher Patrick Fery was born February 3rd, 1968, the second of three children, to Barbara Ann (Balloun) Fery and Frank Kenneth Fery. He attended Grant elementary, Parish middle school, and North Salem high school where he graduated in 1986. Chris got his degree in counseling and psychology from the University of Oregon and worked as a case manager for Northwest Senior and Disability Services since 1999.

Beginning in October of 1999, Chris worked as a Case Manager for Mid-Willamette Valley Senior Services Agency, which later became NWSDS. He served in the McMinnville office and later at the South Salem office. In August of 2012, the South Salem location closed and Chris transferred to the North Salem office,
where he continued as a case manager. In January, 2022 Chris transferred to the Dallas office where he was employed for the rest of his time with NWSDS.

Chris loved hiking and backpacking, especially in the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness area. In 2015, he completed part of the Pacific Crest Trail which had been a goal of his for some time. He also loved spending time rafting lakes in the wilderness, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing. He recently moved into an apartment that faced the Willamette River in Independence where he found a love in observing the birds there, especially the ospreys.

On October 25, 2003, Chris became a dad to Stephanie Alexa. He loved being her father, often videotaping everyday moments and special milestones. Seeing her was the highlight of his days and he enjoyed every minute with her. From watching cheesy rom-coms, going on walks, cooking together, attending performances, building gymnastic apparatuses and everything in between, Chris showed how much he loved her.

Even through some health issues, Chris loved to be active, running several 5K’s and half-marathons, taking walks in the park and along the Willamette River, biking through Salem, and exercising. He loved the Oregon Ducks and Portland Trail Blazers, often going to games with his family and collecting memorabilia.

After many health struggles, Chris passed away in his sleep on December 4. He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Fery, father, Frank Fery, brother, Frank, Jr. Fery, and sister, Debra Welter. A memorial service will be held at Salem Alliance Church on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at 3:00 PM. Interment will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens on January 3, 2024.
