Charles Howard Wilson
September 29, 1925 - April 28, 2015
Charles Howard Wilson, 89, of Monmouth passed away on April 28, 2015. Howard was born on September 29, 1925, in Ellensburg, Washington, the third child to Charles and Bertha Wilson. He was known for his generosity, volunteerism, work ethic and love of flying. Howard was passionate about flying. He built and flew various single engine aircraft and shared his enthusiasm through flight instruction. Howard was skilled in mechanics and could fix just about any kind of broken mechanical device. Howard also enjoyed deer hunting and being outdoors.
Howard completed high school and attended college in Pendleton. While in high school, Howard enlisted in the Navy during World War II and saw combat action in the South Pacific on a Destroyer Escort. On June 20, 1948, Howard married Phyllis Ettles in Ellensburg, Washington. They had two children and lived in Washington, Oregon and Alaska. Howard was a devoted husband and father. Over a 50 year career, Howard had many exciting positions. They include farming, equipment operator, airport manager, construction superintendent, airplane mechanic, flight instructor, fire chief, building inspector, and city manager & mayor of Manzanita. Upon retirement Howard and Phyllis moved to Monmouth where they became active with the Monmouth Senior Center and First Christian Church. One of his favorite activities was participating in the Wii bowling tournaments at the senior center. Howard was preceded in death by Phyllis who passed away in 2008. He was loved by many people for his good humor and honesty.
Howard is survived by his son Gary (Charlotte) Wilson; daughter Cyndie Greiner; grandchildren Kenneth (Amy) Wilson, Christopher (Julia) Wilson, Stephanie Wilson, Andrew Greiner & Michelle Greiner; and great-grandchildren Marlee Wilson, Ryder Wilson & Kinzee Wilson.
