Independence - Carol Joy Stewart was born May 6, 1931 in Venice, Illinois to George and Mary Byrd. She passed away at her home in Independence, Oregon on October 11, 2012 at the age of 81.
Carol married John Harold Stewart on November 13, 1948, and together they raised three children. She attended Yuba College for a nursing license, and began working as an LPN in 1969 until her retirement. She liked to crochet and read, and enjoyed watching birds and TV. She was always there for her family, and will be remembered for the love she shared with them. Her special delights were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband John H. Stewart; parents George and Mary Byrd; sisters Thelma Alexander and Evelyn Jones; brothers Leroy Byrd, Clarence Byrd and Gene Byrd. Survivors include son Stephen W. Stewart of Salem, OR; daughter Mary K. Paul of Independence, OR; brother Kenneth Byrd of Clayton Creek, CA; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces who all loved her dearly.
