Betty Lou Smith March 26, 1933 ~ October 20, 2009 Betty Lou Smith passed away on October 20, 2009 after a battle with cancer. Betty lived her life in the Salem and Independence areas. Betty is survived by her children, David M. Harra of Tacoma, Wash., Susan C. Harra of Long Beach, Calif., and Kathleen Dockler of San Diego, Calif.; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Frank Freida Smith, and J. Michael Joyce Smith of Salem; and ex-husband, Andrew Newberg. She is preceded in death by her parents; and first husband, Leland Robert Harra. There will be a celebration of life at 2 p.m., Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Calvary Chapel, 1399 Monmouth St., Independence, in Central Plaza Shopping Center. At her request, chocolate and jazz will be available - bring your favorite chocolate dessert.
