Barbara Mary Gidley, 71, of Monmouth, passed away March 7 after a short bout with cancer.
Barbara was born December 17, 1946 to Chuck and Betty (Keene) Gidley in Toledo, Oregon. She graduated from Waldport High School in 1965 and attended Oregon College of Education, where she obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. Later, she completed her Master's Degree and Administrative Certification.
She began her teaching career in Independence, Oregon as a Junior 2nd grade teacher. Her love for educating children led her to train teachers in using curriculum effectively in Gold Beach and Klamath Falls, as well as serving small schools around the state for the Oregon Dept. of Education.
Following a second career with the US Postal Service, Barbara retired from the Monmouth Post Office in December 2015, where she was a frontline clerk.
Barbara is survived by her mother, Betty Gidley; sister JoAnn Jasa, (Steve); brother Allen Gidley, (Kay); nieces and nephews; cousins; and members of the Hedrick family to whom she was "Barb", "Grandma Barb" and "Aunt Barb".
Her joyful "Good morning", "Good afternoon", and "Good evening" will be missed.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 21 at 1:00 p.m., at Ash Creek Bible Church in Monmouth, OR. Private family interment will follow at Hilltop Cemetery.
