Arthur James Young
January 3, 1927 - April 10, 2016
Arthur James Young, "Jimmy," was born January 3, 1927 in Portland Oregon to Harvey Young and Wilma Johnson. Jimmy lived in Monmouth his entire life; he went to Monmouth Elementary, Monmouth High School and then served in the U.S. Navy Amphibious Forces South Pacific during World War II, eventually settling down into his Monmouth home off Mistletoe Road. Jimmy was most often seen running the show at the Elite Cleaners of Monmouth; but more importantly socializing with the town. Jimmy also worked for Caterpillar for about fifteen years where he made lifelong friendships. He spent his free time on vacations wherever he could lounge by the pool, dance with all the ladies, play pranks on any person he made contact with, and peddle his famous "Pike-Young" melons around Monmouth. He belonged to the American Legion, American Veterans, Elks Lodge, Eagles, and "the old farts club." Jimmy spent his whole life making other's smile. He was a hard working family man that enjoyed fishing, gardening, and collecting junk! Anybody that was fortunate enough to have met Jimmy knew what a treasure he was to have in your life, even if you fell victim to his "Have you met Herman?" joke. He passed away April 10th, 2016 at the age of 89. He is survived by his two children, Julia Jensen and Phillip Young, and two grandchildren, James Young and Danielle Young.
