Antonia Anne Murray (Tulou)
Born August 4th 1947 in Geneva, Switzerland, Tonia's early years were spent in post war Europe. Both her parents were physicians, which required Tonia to help in the care for her younger siblings throughout her childhood years after coming to the United States. This responsibility blossomed into a rich character full of devotion and service to those in need. As far back as anyone can remember, Tonia was actively involved in raising children and helping others.
As a young adult, Tonia achieved recognition by being inducted as member of Phi Beta Kappa, an academic honor society at the University of North Carolina. Like her parents, she enjoyed a life filled with learning, a gift she and her husband passed on to their three surviving children.
She stood for kind words, softening hearts, and for open arms. Those close to Tonia know how she dedicated her life to uphold principles of traditional hospitality, community, and good will. In all she did you could see her young and light hearted spirit infused with curiosity and attuned to the Divine. She loved reading and adventure and wove both into a life filled with magic and wonder. As a culinary expert, she inspired many who continue on in her creative legacy.
As a wife, Tonia was devoted to Marshall and the rich spiritual journey they built together. Regardless of where circumstance dictated they go, she could be counted on to weather any storm with a smile. Throughout the nearly 47 years of marriage, she and Marshall were the best of friends. Truly, they both stood for something we could all only hope to be so lucky to have. Her passing is a great loss to us all. We would be so fortunate to have you with us still, dear Tonia.
Indeed, Tonia was most fulfilled as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend. Everyone fondly remembers her family holidays and the warm moments in between. Preceding her passing and welcoming her home are her parents, Pierre and Dorothy and her son Evan. Her legacy includes her loving husband, three brothers, two sisters, cousins, nieces, nephews, one daughter, two sons, ten grandchildren, and countless friends. Tonia, we are all better to have known you and honor you as you live on with us and through us. Our deepest love accompanies you until we meet again.
