SALEM - Marie Smiley passed away on March 21, 2010 at the age of 92 at Capital Manor, Salem, Oregon. Marie, daughter of Walter and Anna Lundeen, was born in 1918 near Clay Center, Nebraska. The family moved to the Willamette Valley in 1934. Marie married Joseph Whitcomb Smiley in 1938. They lived in Rickreall for several years when his life was tragically taken in 1952. Marie and her daughters settled in Monmouth where she lived for 44 years, active in church and community and dedicated to her work at the Central School District until her retirement in 1983. Marie's retirement years were filled with good friends and family, community service, lifelong learning and extensive travels. She became a member of the Salem First Baptist Church when she moved to Capital Manor in 1997. Staying active both physically and mentally, Marie has been an inspiration to many friends and family. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Joan & Ty Kuhns, Dallas, and Sandra & Roger Alinger, Denver, grandchildren Lisa (Gary) Hadley, Eric Williams, Cara (Steve) Stamback, Matthew (Meika) Alinger, Mason (Roberta) Alinger and 6 great-grandchildren: Justin, Dagny & Caleigh Hadley, Dylan & Carson Stamback and Levi Loe-Alinger. A Celebration of Life service will be at Capital Manor, 1955 Dallas Hwy NW, Salem, on Friday, March 26 at 2 p.m. Donations in her memory may be made to the Union Gospel Mission of Salem.
